Daily Blog Post #33

ive continued working with photooshop a bit.
i went through a tutorial that worked with filters to blur, scratch, and adjust colors to make a picture look old.
i also followed a turorial that also used filters to make a picture look like a water color painting

Daily Blog Post #32

I ran across some interesting tutorials in the last few days. I used the tutorials to create a collage of polaraoids. and another tutorial to make  a picture with a dot pattern. like a mosaic type thing. they were easier than i thought they would be. I finally learned what a clipping mask does. it helped create the effect of the polaroids. and i am beginning to figure out what the filters do.

Daily Blog Post #31

I feel like ive became quite familiar with illustraor. im much more comfortable with the pen tool now. so i would like to acquire more photoshop skills. i went and looked for just any photoshop tutorials. i came across how to make a glossy button. i tried it, but the instructions werent really cclear, so i decided to try a new one. a water ripple effect caught my attention. it was fairly easy. the most challenging part was probably choosing the color tint for the reflection.

Daily Blog Post #30

Yesterday, I continued working with my initials. I didnt do much with them, but I converted them into something like a logo. I filled them a black and white gradient. I also made some lines to look like a upside pyramid. And then put everythig inside an oval. Pretty simple but I like the color

so ive been working on the same design i drew out, and i am actually happy on the result. i still havent done much with it besides making copies of it and messing around with them. i got rid of the stroke and added some gradients to it. it looks cool because since the gradient is black to white and there is no stroke, it looks like the picture is fading into the white background. there are picturtes of a single logo and one of a bunch of them put together

Daily Blog Post #28

yesterday I was feeling a little creative, so I started drawing my name in a kind of tribal design. very geometric. I wouldnt know how to describe it, but it is not legible at first look. my name is in the design twice. I also quickly sketched  my initials. I think it looks cool because it looks the same if you flib it180 degrees. I am going to try to reproduce these and color them and maybe add backgrounds or place them somewhere on illustrator

Daily Blog Post #27

Yesterday for some reason I was really craving strawberry ice cream, so I just went ahead and created an ice cream cone with the pen tool. i experimented a bit with the effects to add to the cone. I ended up using a patchwork effect to give it the waffle cone texture. i didnt like that the effect was also aplied to the stroke, so it looks pixelated along the edges. I also looked for effects for ice cream texture but none worked, so I tried using a picture of real ice cream and placing it under, but that didnt really work for me eiher. The straw was just a really random thing that I threw on there.

Daily Blog Post #26

In the spirit of Halloween, I made a creepy looking pumpkin with Jason's mask. I desaturated the images to give it a more old school look then used some level adjustments.

I have a picture of my date and I on homecoming but the lighting is terrible. i think it was the flash, so i tried to make it look a little better. i struggled a little. im still working with the levels and masking. i tried to add a watercolor effect to the background but it came out a little too dark. and at the nd i think it looks better, but it could be better

Daily Blog Post #20

yesterday, I was having complications with creating a halftone pattern, well actually I had no idea how to do it, so i googled it. I then was able to create the halftone pattern with illustrator and then I experimented with the expanded image. I made a really big mess, but messing around with individual and groups of part of the pattern helped me learn cool things..

Daily Blog Post #19

today i continued working on the tatoo effect piece and was able to finish it quite quickly. the harderst thing i had to do was maybe mask off some excess and queer looking areas of the tatoo. i learned that the key for realistic looking tatoos is the detail of the picture. pores are very important. the detail help the overlayed image blend in with the skin. i will be using this technique in order to edit the picture for my album cover.

Daily Blog Post #18

yesterday, for some reason, i got the idea to create another cd album cover. i want  to make it some gangster rap type thing. i think it would look cool with a picture of myself with some tats and a background of the slum or something. so the first thing i did, is open up the tutorial on how to make a realistic tattoo effect. i read through it and i was glad that i understood most of it. then i searhed for a tatoo that i would like to place on the guys face from the tutorial. i opened up illustrator and creating the vector tatoo is as far as i got.

Daily Blog Post #17

today i continued working on the same piece from yesterday. i started with the neck and i continued with the body. the arms is the last body part i did after realizing how hard it is to make everything proportionate. i gave the figure s crewneck and some cargo shorts to not leave it so bare. so what i got out of this is that im not good at proportions and that i dont like attempting to create people.

Daily Blog Post #16

yesterday, i didnt know what to do, i was just messing around with the pen tool and i ended up with something that looked like a beany. then i got the idea to make a person using the pen tool. so that is what i worked on dutring the period. i think the nose looks funny but it works for me. i used some brushes for the eyebrows and eyelashes. i was pleased by how these came out.

Daily Blog Post #15

one of the things that attracts me the most are abstract designs. anything from textures to circles and arrows and anything 3D. i usually have very dark abstract wallpapers and i have also tried drawing my own. so i decided to look at some abstract art in google images. i saw many that attracted me, but very few that i had the slightest idea of how to create. i saw a simpler one that i decided to use as somewhat of a guide but most of the work i did was my own.
yesterday i set up a light kind of pastel yellow color for the background with darker stripes. then i mostly used the cirle tool and star tool and line tool to create figures scattered all over the background. then i added arrowheads to the lines to make them look like arrows as well as some really random swirls. the first picture is what i completed yesterday.

today i decreased and increased the size of the arrows to add a little variety. then i colorized the circles. i wanted some contrast so i used dark red and gray colors and some really dark mustard type color to go with the background. with the circles colored, the back still looked somewhat empty, so i decided to add some texture which had been my initial thought, but i totally forgot. i used texture symbols. some that looks kind of like a texturized wall as well a some splatters. i messed around with the blending modes. the last touch was a flare from the flare tool. the huge flare was kind of an accident because the mouse moved, but it ended up looking like a galaxy i think.

Daily Blog Post #14

today i finished the soda bottle label i have been working on. it didnt come out as cool as i pictured it. maybe because i rushed through things. i didnt really take my time to make it look that nice. what i did like was the colors. the rest was like blahh. i thnk i can do better but ive had a rough day. maybe ill come back to this, but for now im done. i think i may need to focus on a project that will keep me entertained for a while without getting bored by it.
in order to complete this, i used some gradients for the background as well as the center circle. i used the pen tool to make the word "fresh" in the middle of the circle. ant the rest was type. so thats pretty much it. nothing too fancy well besides the plastic effect on the logo and circle.

Daily Blog Post #13

Today I continued working on my soda bottle label. I finished all the nutrition facts and barcode and stuff. Then I added a greenish yellowish gradient to the background, which took me forever to find out how to make! I had totally forgotten. I then added an ellipse to the center of the label. And attempted to create a logo for the word fresh.

Daily Blog Post #12

So today I continued my search for what to do. After I finished my lunch, I took a look through one of exercise books again. I believe it was a glass soda bottle that caught my eye so thats when I decided to make a soda bottle label. I am using an image from Google to help create the template for mine. I hope that's not plagiarism..? So hopefully I am done with this by Tuesday. I'm thinking of fresh cola or something like that. Some Squirt type thing th

today, i created an image of a lion's body with a tiger's face, and the rear end from a cheetah. i used images from stock xchange. what i did first was use the lion as the background. then i placed the tiger. i used a layer mask so that only the tiger's face was on top op the lions face. then i placed the cheetah. i also used a layer mask so that only its hind legs and tail were visible. i used some levels in order to get the colors to match a bitmore. finally i used the clone stamp to "erase" parts that didnt match.

Daily Blog Post #10

Today I spent some time looking through more graphic design online. I browsed around for some t-shirt design contests and I found some really cool ones as well as some really dumb ones. I still think I lack the capacity to create an image for a shirt to be produced, but that would be really cool, and I'm going to work on that. So that idea is pretty much done with. Then I tried to give alfonso some ideas and tips to finish his "most dope" project.
After that, for the first time, I acceded the data files for this year and ill probably try the PhotoShop 7 points since my new idea is creating a funky but realistic looking animal with a bunch of parts from different animals.

Daily Blog Post #9

today i spent the day trying to decide what my next project is going to be. my first thought was making a logo for a hair cut supply brand and basically creating a business package with a set of clippers, trimmer, and the box or something. i looked around for ideas, but most of it seems pretty dull. my next idea was to create a t shirt with an abstract desing, or a funny message. i looked at some t-shirts, but i dont think im creative enough. maybe ill take another look at the books for more ideas.

Daily Blog Post #8

so I finally finished  the project I was working on during Friday's class. I worked through the whole period once again. I spent the period tweaking with the picture I took. It is a picture of my hair cutting cape and it says "flako kutz" on it. I added a levels adjustment and gave it a little blur, trying to focus the attention on the letters. I used illustrator and photoshop to create this project. photoshop was just for the picture and illustrator for the rest. attached is a jpeg of the final result. I dont know why  the margins werent used to export this, so there is some white space arund the edge that shouldnt be there.

I noticed the picture wouldnt attach right, so I just added a snip shot.

Daily Blog Post #7

Sorry, I have been working all the way through the bell in class, and haven't made time to post this. I will just write about both days in this post.
Yesterday, I finished tracing the main logo for " flako kutz" with the pen tool. I then colored it the original barber colors, red, white, and blue, very patriotic. Then I tweaked around a little bit with the opasity and the layer styles. I lowered the opasity, duplicated it and added a layer style. Finding the just right color took me a little bit of time. I felt like a female trying to decide what outfit to wear with what shoes as I tried to match each color with each part of the logo.

Today I added all of the text on the template. Just the basic information like in the example I posted previously. I made sure everything was aligned with something, using he design principles. That was what I did for the most part, besides look at more examples of barbers' websites. None of them were of any interest of mine. Im posting up a pic of what it looks like so far. All that is missing is a picture of the business whig will go where the red rectangle is located. I took a picture today that I will post it as well. I will tweak around a little with the lighting and make sure to focus the attention to a specific part of it.

Daily Blog Post #6

Today, I was able to do the final touches on the background layer, and start tracing the main logo as well as create a random image that ill place somewhere on the page.
I had a little trouble getting the scanner to work properly, so that took a bit of time. I scanned a sketch of what I want the logo to look like, and I begun tracing it with the pen tool. Tomorrow I plan on finishing the logo, and placing most of the text. I am still debating whether I should use indesign or not.

Daily Blog Post #5

Today I worked on the background for my website's home page template. I used Google images and created vector images with the pen tool. Then I duplicated them and spread them around a gray background. So what I ended up with is a gray background with small barber poles, combs, scissors, and clippers all over it. Tomorrow I will work on the main flako kutz logo.

Daily Blog Post #4

today in class, I looked through some more photoshop text tutorials and I found a pretty neat one. I actually thought it would have been a bit more challenging, but it was not stressful to do like the other one. The hardest part was probably having to create the vector form of my initials on illustrator. I actually worked on it through the whole period, which is why I am typing this now.
I already started looking through a design exercise book and hope to have chosen a project by tomorrow.

Daily Blog Post #3

today I found out that the hardest part of the tutorial I started yesterday was the end. I had a rough time getting things to work correctly, but I managed and I was able to complete most of it, with a little help from Mr. P. It does not look exactly the same as the example, but I am satidfied with the result. I think I may need a little more refreshing up with photoshop so I think I may try another tut.

Daily Blog Post #2

Today I attempted to do the text effect tutorial on photoshop. I was hoping to finish it today, but I relized I am a bit more rusty with photoshop than I initially thought. I was able to get through about 3/4 of it and I do plan to finish tommorow. I also realized how pivky photoshop is about many things, including selections.

Daily Blog Post #1

Today I set up my first blog using blooger.com with the help of Alfonso. I had a little bit of a hard time because I didnt know the difference between a blog and a post so I named my blog the title of my post. Then I had to go back and delete it and create a new one. i actually liked one of the templates but I will probably go back and mess with it later. I found it interesting that there is also an app for this site and I plan on downloading it.

I also looked at a photography book that Mr. Pederson provided us with. I found it interesting that there is way more to photography than just clicking the shutter.  After looking at the book, I looked for some Photoshop text effect tutorials to freshen up my skills. I picked one out to start tomorrow. I will try to do a stylish retro text effect and hope to be done by tommorow.
